Few quick things.
1) Grade Checks: We regularly encourage our boys to be up on their studies. We hound them about it all season actually. It is strongly encouraged that the time after school be used for homework. We are hearing of a number of boys staying up very late to do homework. That will catch up to them as the season wears on. October is known as "sick month". If you add lots of late nights to the physical exertion we're putting these boys through for 3+ months we often see a break down occur. When we practice at 5:15pm on a Wed. for example, the student should be taking advantage of the 3+ hours of time to get their work done. Homework should be done at tournaments as well! See picture below. Guys got some work done and had a great time together.
Note: The next grade check will be due Friday, October 1. We look at our role as just another form of accountability to help these boys stay ahead in the academics. Here is an example of what many of our varsity boys were doing between games at our tournament this weekend.

2) October break: We will not be having practice Wed-Friday of the break week. We will play Watsonville and scrimmage on Tuesday, then take the rest of the week off.
3) Pictures and Videos: Parents please take photos of the boys. Preferably I need more candid shots, candid videos, and game videos, as Ken Doo handles most of the action photos all season. His pics are awesome!! Please put on discs and get them to me throughout the season. I try to gradually compile them and begin making the end of the season video as the season progresses, not all at the very end.
Note: Remember that if we post pictures to the blog, the pictures likely will not show up on the email version of the blogpost, so just click on the link and it will take you directly to the blog to see the photos.
4) The suits are in. They look great. This brand of suit was requested by the varsity. A little on the small side haha. That's the style!
5) Remember to take SAT's on October 9th if at all possible and not on Nov. 6th. We have a tourney on Oct. 9th, but the games are not played until late afternoon on the 9th to allow for kids taking SAT's that day. The next test date is Sat. Nov. 6th which is League Championships. The games start later that day as well to work around the SAT, but if we're playing for the championship that day, which I am hopeful we will be, it would be best to not have kids trying to take the most important test of their life while thinking about the championship game they will be racing to get to after the test.
In conclusion: Keep pressing on. This season will be over before we know it. Start making plans for big attendance at the RLS game on Friday Night, October 1. JV at 4:30, Varsity at 6:30. This is always fun when these two schools meet. It has been packed the last few years so I would recommend get there early!!
Here are some pics of the varsity success this past weekend.
