Round 1 is in the books. Carmel boys varsity beat Gilroy last night 8-3. It was a game we won, but did not play all that well. We have tended to play up to good teams levels and play down to lesser opponents levels. Such is the struggle with so many young teams. We are confident for Friday's game however. We've put in hard work every day at practice since the beginning of August. I don't have the stats from the game, but I believe all 6 starters had goals including a nice left handed goal by Kai Harper. We were able to play the "super sophs" in the 4th quarter. Sam Stoffers, Ryan Marden, Declan Harris, Austin Robertson, Emilio Eisner, Mike Airola, and Ben Price in the cage. It was fun to watch "the future". They played well and Austin Robertson recorded a beautiful goal and assist and nearly had 2 more goals. Good job boys.
The task at hand is RLS on Friday, 5:30 at Carmel High. A win on Friday moves us into the championship game on Sat., 5pm at CHS. Make no mistake, this will be a hard fought game on both sides. Carmel - RLS are always fun. Win or lose this friendly rivalry brings the best play out in both schools. I again request and encourage you to try and make this game, bring a friend, relatives, etc. I would get there a bit early as well, might be crowded due the Salinas/Palma game right before ours.
Gate pay. Since this is a league tournament we have to charge admission at the front gate. This small fee pays for the referees for the tournament. It's $4 for adults and $2 for kids. So make sure you have a few bucks on you.
See you all there!
Coach Gaily
