The Varsity had a good weekend all in all. We're still working the kinks out, but continue to make progress in certain areas. The Padres Beat Fremont High School 14-6. Then lost to the eventual tournament champion and host Homestead High School 16-9, Carmel was forced to play without captain Jay Louis due to knee injury. We then won the third place game by beating Burlingame 13-8.
Leading Scorers:
Ben Evered: 7 goals, 7 assists, 3 steals
Jay Louis: 6 goals, 3 assists, 4 steals
Joe Hamwey: 6 goals,
Brady Hopkins: 5 goals, 5 steals
Ben Price: 22 Saves
Ben Evered was selected to the All Tournament team.
We saw great all around play on both sides by Romi Kristl and Ben Regan who both contributed numerous steals, assists and led the counterattack the entire weekend. It was a team effort this weekend with everyone playing and contributing.
We have a break this week with no games. We will get back to work on things to make us a more complete team. The upside is, there are parts of our game that we haven't even worked on yet this early in the season. The boys are coming together and we're having a lot of fun.
Coach Gaily
P.S. We conducted our first "grade check" last week. We were astounded by the excellent grades and degree of difficulty class schedules these boys are taking. It is so cool to see 6 or 7 guys doing homework and quizzing each other between games at tournaments. The work in the pool should translate to the classroom and vice versa. Put as much effort into your studies as you do in practice and you are bound to succeed in the classroom!! Keep it up boys. You are creating a "culture" of hardwork and outstanding academics for future classes to follow.
