Hello All!
I hope you are all enjoying your few days of reprieve from all things water polo. It all starts back up on Monday as we begin the "stretch run" as we call it. The varsity finishes the last few weeks with our own tournament next weekend, followed by the Monte Vista tournament on Halloween weekend. Thrown in there are our final league games with Hollister and Palma. That's it!! I knew this season would go fast. The first week of November is the League Championship tournament. We will likely play a Wednesday or Thursday game that week, but that is yet to be decided until league play is completed. The first Saturday in November will be the Finals and Semi Finals. Depending on how we do determines whether we qualify for CCS the following week. The JV's play their final league games as well with both the frosh and JV finishing their season on the final weekend of October with our JV tournament we host at CHS. It should be a fun finale. I would not miss one minute of water polo the next few weeks. It will be exciting.
Soquel scrimmage: I intentionally invited Soquel to scrimmage our boys. Soquel has become a CCS powerhouse over the last 10 years, winning CCS once. They have a junior on their team that has played with the Junior National and Olympic Development Teams the past 2 years. We wanted to test our boys and give them some very serious competition in order to make us better. It was just a scrimmage so official score was not taken, but unofficially our boys lost only 9-5. We were all very impressed with how the boys played, limiting Max Shell to just a few goals and being tied at halftime. They were the better team, but it showed our boys that we can play with anyone if they focus, compete, and play with confidence. Soquel has beaten Bellarmine and Menlo this year already while only losing to Serra and Los Altos by 1 or 2 goals. If you know CCS I just named championship programs right there.
Final Weeks of the season recommendations:
1) Stay caught up on your studies!
2) Go to bed earlier than normal
3) Avoid things that may cause injury (surfing, skating, basketball)
4) Try not to get sick!! Wash your hands!!
5) Make good "social" choices!!
It's often the "little things" that get in the way of championships.
One game at a time everyone...Focus on One game at a time...and the rest will take care of itself.
Coach Gaily
