The Varsity lost a tough battle on Thursday night at CHS. Aptos came out guns blazing and was very physical in the first half. The Padres were down 7-1 early in the second quarter, but showed some tough resilience as they begin to slow down the Mariners and ended the first half 7-2. The second half began with some key goals by Romi Kristl and Ryan Marden as we chipped away at their lead. By the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 7-4. The 4th quarter played out much like the 3rd as the boys continued to score and held Aptos to only 1 goal from the middle of the second quarter until the end of the game. Alas, we couldn't score enough to come out on top, but the game ended tightly with Aptos winning 8-6. We were very pleased with the mental toughness our boys displayed after being down so much and so early. We took a lot away from that game that will build our confidence. Leading scorer was Ryan Marden with 2 goals and Ben Price was awesome in the cage blocking 9 shots. Other scorers were Romi Kristl, Declan Harris, Zack Olivas, and Emilio Eizner who each had 1 goal. Excellent defense was played by Mike Airola and Trey Coppinger.
The JV won their game 12-7. Alon Yoeli had 5 goals, Ethan Atkins 4 goals and freshman Brett Luch had 3 goals. Dylan Larson and Jackson Trapin each chipped in a goal apiece. Ethan Crane had a fine showing in the goal with some big saves. Way to go JV!
The Frosh showed great improvement from the first game! They lost 12-7, but played a great game against a very tough Aptos freshmen team. John Wood led all scorers with 2. Bo Brothers, Jack Eason, Oliver LePlus, Tanner Koopmans, and Nick Bispo each had 1 goal. Patrick Kelly had 9 saves in the cage. Way to go Frosh!
Big game against Salinas on Tuesday for all 3 teams. You don't want to miss a single game this year. They are bound to all be close and exciting. See calendar for game times.
Don't forget to order photos each week from Ken Doo's photo site. Build a collection as the season goes on. Have a collection of action photos from freshman through senior year. You will be amazed at the difference!
