Coach Gaily Championship Recap
I am writing this email on my phone at 5am because I could not sleep. My heart is still pounding from having experienced one of the most epic sporting events I've ever witnessed or been a part of. Ive also attached a link to the article from the Santa Cruz Sentinel.
If you were there I think you will agree that it is difficult to summarize into words what truly transpired. We all witnessed a group of boys dig deeper into themselves mentally and physically than they ever have before. There were so many amazing individual performances, Brett's pass to Ethan for the game winning goal, treys shot to tie the game to send it into sudden death overtime, Sam's huge saves in the cage all game long. I could go on and on. What shown through all the individual heroics was that "teamwork" always wins. The unselfish display of teamwork mixed with the heart of warriors allowed this team to keep coming back. They never gave up, never got down on themselves. We talked all week about "belief" that they could win. We talked about how that term is so frequently used in situations like this to encourage "positive thinking", but never confidently internalized and truly believed. We wanted these boys really "know" and be "confident" that they could win and would win if they played together and again truly "believed". 2 quarters of the first overtime and then 2 quarters of sudden death overtime. Hoping I'm able to sleep again soon haha.
What a game! So proud of our padres!
We do want to congratulate Soquel. They had the better record during the regular season they share this title as "co champions" with us. They had won the league title for some reports say 19 straight years and had won 90 straight league games coming into this game. That's some serious success.
CCS!!!! We will be hosting the first round of the CCS playoffs on weds night at carmel. Times and opponent to TBA. Don't miss this!
