Here is the tournament and season synopsis by Coach Ed. Way to go JV's. An impressive season they had!!
Coach Gaily
The Red group finished the season with three impressive wins! We prevailed against a powerful Pioneer squad that had about twenty players including some Juniors. It was a very close game as Pioneer closed the lead in the third period. Brady Hopkins scored the winning goal with just a couple of ticks left on the clock; to end the game with a 11-10 score. Brady not only guarded 2m but really stepped up the offense in the absence of Sean Pickert. He scored five of the eleven goals! The second game was an early morning game at 8 a.m. after Halloween, a time when our kids have been known to be sluggish. As expected the game was a nail biter against long time powerhouse, San Benito. We were down 5-7 heading into the fourth period. It was an impressive rally to score five goals in the fourth period. The game went to sudden death overtime with a 10-10 tie at the end of the final six minute period. Freshman, Romi Kristal scored the winning goal of a cross post rebound of a Brady Hopkins shot; the goalie blocked the initial attempt by Romi but could not stop the second attempt. Very exciting water polo!!! The final game was with Valley Christian and the boys really put together an excellent game. Eight players had assists and eight scored goals in a 17-4 blowout game. The excitement, enthusiasm, and teamwork were evident throughout the game. It was nice to finally see some well run man up conversions. Tournament MVP would have to be Brady Hopkins, who had six assists, eleven steals, and thirteen goals for the tournament! What makes this most satisfying is that he is very focused on defensive play, a hallmark of our team. The game winning fourth quarter, bar in, goals against Pioneer, were impressive. His skills will be needed and valued on Varsity next season. Ben Price has had an outstanding year and by mid season he secured the starting goalie position, allowing us to develop Joe as a field player. Ben had eighteen saves during this past weekend and a total of one hundred and two for the season! He has an exceptional passing ability for a Freshman. He will continue to improve his shot blocking prowess in the years to come.
What an incredible season we have had with the JV Boys!!!! Our overall record was 17-4 (80.9 % win ratio)! Two of those losses were during the first tournament when we lost to San Benito and RLS by several goals. The only other losses were to Bellarmine Fr./Soph (with about thirty players) and powerhouse Los Altos, a top rated CCS team. Much of the credit goes to Freshmen who played at Legacy this past summer. We often played three of them as rotating starters because they had the needed skills and understanding of the game. Keep working hard and the future will be bright! Thanks for the opportunity to work with so many outstanding individuals this season. Those of you who will move on to Varsity, i will miss dearly, but wish you continued success in all your endevors. Thank you parents for the unparallelled support you have offered us throughtout this season. Coach Ed
