Varsity Tourney Results

We had a pretty good weekend at the Valley PoloFest tourney. Carmel won 2 of 3 in the South Valley Polo Fest at Sobrato high school. We were a bit decimated by a number of guys being very sick and had some injuries to deal with. We played a very tough Serra team on Friday and were down only 2-1 at the end of the first quarter. We had trouble adapting to their "drop" defense and aggressive perimeter pressure and they quickly opened the game up on us and we could not recover. This goes to show how some of these top level programs progress as their high school tenure goes on. Most of their team plays year round at a high level. We then grinded out the next game by beating Burlingame by 1. We lost Jay Louis in the 1st quarter with 2 ejection fouls and we had to sit him until the start of the 4th quarter. The boys maintained their poise without him and held the lead all game as Burlingame mounted a few charges and crept to within 1 goal. Ryan Marden and Joe Hamwey were standouts in that game as they created a lot of scoring opps. on the counterattack and both drawing ejections on the defense. Ben Price was the difference maker in the cage for us. We finished the tournament by beating the host, Sobrato. It was a well rounded effort as we had control of the game throughout. This week will be a nice time to recover and gear up for the next and final few weeks of the season. You could definitely tell that the boys were a bit tired and in need of a break.
