Ever wonder why there seems to be so many smart boys in our water polo program???  Read this article http://fitness.mercola.com/sites/fitness/archive/2012/01/20/physically-active-children-perform-better-academically.aspx?e_cid=20120120_FNL_art_1

I had a parent of 3 boys, the last of which played polo for Carmel for 4 years.  All 3 boys went on to excellent colleges and are doing great things!  Family requirement became 3 sports mandatory.  Reason, parents saw eldest son's grades drop, depression like symptoms develop, attitude change after convincing mom/dad he wanted to take a break from sports for a few months.

Not trying to tell anyone how to parent, please do not send hatemail :)  that is not my intention here.  Read this article and see the research now backing increase in child intelligence, academics with steady rigorous exercise.

Just food for thought as swim season approaches and the grumblings of "I love water polo, but I don't want to swim.  Mom, I'll work out at the sportscenter on my own I promise.  Then I'll get in great shape this summer with the 3 weeks we'll have between family vacations before school starts."  I've heard it all before, it's never worked :)

You want to be a strong water polo player, DO NOT TRY TO RE-INVENT THE WHEEL.  FOLLOW THESE STEPS FROM FEB1. - AUG. 1
SWIM w/CHS...  (There is no question.  You will get faster in 3 months than could ever have imagined.  We've seen tremendous game change from players that devote themselves to getting faster.  Gotta be willing to put in the work and do some things you might not like in order to improve.)
PLAY LEGACY or equivalent club (play as much as possible ESPECIALLY tournaments!!  It's amazing how few kids attend the tournaments Legacy signs up for.  that's where you get better!)
LIFT WEIGHTS...(This should come LAST and if you have time!  Most boys want to put this in first in the order.  NO.  I recommend CrossFit if you really want to get big and strong.  Checkout www.crossfitmonterey.com for their high school weight training program.

Here's the article againhttp://fitness.mercola.com/sites/fitness/archive/2012/01/20/physically-active-children-perform-better-academically.aspx?e_cid=20120120_FNL_art_1

Remember,  Success often comes to those who do what others are not willing to do.

PUT IN WORK BOYS.  GET OUT RESULTS.
