(Commentary from JV tournament by Coach Ed)
Good weekend of games for the JV. Bright spots were Joe Hamwey's
multiple saves in goal. Ben Price with some good saves and a nice assist on a perfect outlet pass. We worked on this last week. Pickert twins played solidly, scored the bulk of goals, got good amounts of time in the field. First goals for Mike Airola, Ryan Marden,& Austin Robertson. Impressed by Ryan Marden and Romie Kristl’s scrappy play to recover several balls after turnovers. Romie played great all around. We beat Pioneer. Lost to Hollister after spotting three goals in the first period. Lost to RLS as well but missed many open shooting opportunities by aiming at the goalie, shooting low angle shots, missing cross cage openings, curl shot and lob opportunities. Need to work on pool balance on offense, winging out, and release moves. Defensive reaction time, positioning, passing lane understanding, and weak side help will cut down on scoring against us and improve our counter attack opportunities. Solid effort from all the new players and returnees. Looking forward to working on some of the problem areas this week. There is a need to improve sprint speed, as we won one or two of the dozen sprints. Generally a good
outing and plenty of room for improvement with practice and focus on
basic offensive and defensive strategies. Some evidence of weak side
help and some good steals at the end of game three.
