It was a beautiful day! The sun was out, it was warm, what a great day for water polo. The varsity had little trouble with Gilroy and won handily 11-3. It is so much fun to watch the growth of our entire team. Every player played and made signficant contributions. We are seeing things showing up in games that we have worked so hard on in practice. Standouts yesterday were Kai Harper with two of the nicest assists we've seen all year. Dane Maughan, Ryan (The goal monger and legend) Ehlke, Fred Hertlein, Cole Stephan (who had the nices backhand shot of the season) each with two goals each. Sean Marden, Jay Louis, Nate Cohen each had a goal. Jakub had 4 saves in cage. Zach Olpin continues to make great strides and made a few great steals.
The JV game with Gilroy was another impressive win by Carmel. Gilroy was forced to use some of their varsity players due to injuries and sickness, no matter, our JV's dominated from start to finish. I continue to be impressed with all the JV's, but am particularly impressed with a few I will mention, Brady Hopkins, Ben Price in cage, Joe (Full House) Hamwey, Romie Kristl, Ryan Marden, and of course the Pickert boys. I actually feel like I shouldn't even mention those names because I am very impressed with so many, Mike Airola, Declan Harris, Ben Regan, Kelly Goldberg, Lucas Zilliox are a few more. These boys are good and only going to get better!! Keep it up.
We are looking forward to our first ever varsity tournament at Carmel High on Saturday. We are excited. Some very good teams will be attending, the likes of Los Altos (one of the top teams in all divisions in CCS), Burlingame (another top CCS team), Salinas (we all know Salinas's quality), Santa Cruz, Willow Glen, Aptos, San Benito and RLS. The weather is supposed to be fantastic and the water polo should be top notch.
Coach Gaily
