Carmel vs. Watsonville Recap

First of all I want to apologize for the schedule mixup yesterday. Watsonville had transportation issues so that is why we had to play the boys game first and start a bit later. Sorry if that screwed up some parents schedules.
The varsity had no trouble with the Wildcats. The final score was 21-0. We put the brakes on the counterattack in the second quarter. Those are tough games to play when you are superior to the other team on so many levels. We want to be respectful and not embarrass them by any means by running up the score, but we also have to continue to play water polo.

Standouts were Jakub Kristl in cage who pitched his first "shut out". He recorded 7 saves and had some of his best passing of the season. Ryan Ehlke was the leading scorer with 5 goals. Zach Weston and Sean Marden each had 3 a piece. Fred Hertlein had 2 goals. Zach Olpin, Dane Maughan, Walker Nolan, Kai Harper, Kevin Allaire, Russel Aldinger, Cole Stephan, and Jay Louis each had a goal. Every single player on the varsity scored at least once. The boys displayed good sportsmanship throughout.

The JV scrimmaged each other since Watsonville did not have a JV team. These scrimmages although more lighthearted than a regular match have produced so much improvement. We are seeing things from many players that have greatly displayed their development and improvement. We are blessed to have such great JV coaches like Coach Ed, Ben and Justin.

The JV (Red) travels to the Monta Vista tourney this weekend. The varsity has a final weekend off before 3 weeks of non-stop water polo to finish the season!!

Reminder: The first quarter ends in a few weeks. Are you caught up in classes? Do you need to be putting in extra time on a certain subject, project, etc. Don't leave your schoolwork until the last minute. Stay on top of it. You should be working even harder in the class than you are in the pool!!!

Coach Gaily

P.S. Thanks so much to all the parents that have given gifts, sent emails, offered help and support for my family during this last two weeks. It was special. A heartfelt thank you from the Gaily's.
