Are
you serious
about water
polo? Want to
play in high
school and
maybe beyond?
Here are some
serious
suggestions on
what you
should be
doing in order
to perfect
your play and
be the best
local player
that you can
be.
1.
Participate
in Legacy
EVERY session
(except when
doing HS water
polo).
2. Do
Swim
Conditioning
as often as
you can,
ideally two
days per
week. And, HS
players in the
Spring you
absolutely
should either
do HS swim
season or Legacy
Swim
Conditioning.
College
coaches 1st
question to
prospective
players is NOT
"how many
goals or saves
do you have?"
It is almost
exclusively,
"What is your
50 and what is
your 100
(freestyle)?"
You have to be
fast to play
good Varsity
water polo and
REALLY FAST to
play in
college! Swim
Conditioning
will be
offered this
Winter &
Spring on the
alternate days
of water polo.
(i.e. water
polo=Tues/Thurs
and swim
conditioning=Mon/Wed/Fri)
** Several
participants
in Legacy's
Swim
Conditioning
this past
summer, were
moved to
Varsity
because their
speed and
ability to
counter
attack/defend
had improved
dramatically!
3. Participate
in the USA
Water Polo
Junior
Olympics
(JO's).
This is a must
if you want to
experience
higher levels
of play and
elevate your
game. The JO
experience is
a powerful,
fun and
tremendously
motivating
experience.
(Talk to our
2013 14U JO
team for a
great
perspective on
positives of
the JO
experience.)
4. Participate
in the USA
Water Polo
Olympic
Development
Program (ODP).
This program
is a huge
commitment and
not
inexpensive,
but it is
worthwhile to
try-out at
least once.
This is a
program where
you will
experience the
best water
polo players
in your age
group in the
entire Pacific
Zone. More
information on
this program
is available
by contacting
Legacy and
additional
comments and
recommendations
are available
from parent Tim Auger
at this link.
There are some
pros and cons,
but doing the
program at
least once
will add to
your overall
playing
ability and
perspective.
Try-outs are
coming up in
late Nov/early
Dec for the
Pacific Zone.
