Swimming and other important news!!

Very Important...Before I get into my post here, IF YOU HAVE NOT SUBSCRIBED TO THE BLOG YET AND YOU ARE A PLAYER OR PARENT, PLEASE DO SO IMMEDIATELY!!! We have a lot of subscribers, but we definitely don't have everyone that is on our email list. We will no longer be doing email updates. The blog posts will be taking the place of that. THis will take tremendous amounts of work of Rodger and my shoulders. Please type your email address in to the box on the left side of the page where is says "subscribe". It will send you an email to confirm. Click on that link in the email you receive and you will then be subsribed. You will then automatically be notified by email anytime Rodger or I post an update to the site. This will not work well if everyone is not subscribed and checking their email on a somewhat regular basis. Thank you.

I got a chance to watch the boys and girls swim team compete on Friday at home vs. King City. In between trying to keep my 19 month old daughter from jumping in the pool I was able to witness some pretty great things. I really saw some impressive swims and some extremely impressive stroke and speed improvements from a number of players. The hardwork in the offseason and with swimming is definitely paying off for many of our boys. I am planning on attending the RLS meet and League Championships so I will see you there.

News about the 2008 SEASON!! Please read Rodger's previous post about practice starting Aug. 6th!!!

Now that we've given everyone a timeframe on practice starting and will very shortly have the whole season schedule I have a few comments.
When it comes to "Hell Weeks" or early season workouts, Work and vacations are not a valid excuse. You've got plenty of time to schedule for the start of our season. Our season does not start on the first day of school. It starts on Aug. 6th.
If you have a summer job, be responsible and tell your employer your practice schedule well ahead of time and request their flexibility for the final two weeks of the summer so that you can attend practice each day. Not one or two days out of the week, but each day.

Pre-season workouts are a vital part of our success. If you are not there, please understand that your team is suffering for that not just you.

I've had requests already from a few parents about our schedule during the FALL BREAK. I was glad to hear that because that means parents are well aware of our policy on the Fall Break. We will know that schedule definitively around the beginning of June. But, basically we practice half the week and have a tournament on either the first weekend of the break or the second. One of those two weekends are the SAT date in October. We try and work around the SAT so that there are no conflicts and also give 3 days off of practice so families can take a short vacation of 3-5 days. I would recommend against full week vacations though!!

Please remember that the Fall Break is a great thing and a nice break from school, but it happens to fall 2 weeks prior to our League Championships and CCS. This is why we are pretty firm on kids and families knowing these dates ahead of time so that they can try and work their vacations around that week accordingly.

Note: In the years past we get a few different responses about the Fall Break. These are the most common ones we hear each season:

1) "We have to go visit colleges"

COACHING STAFF's ANSWER: Why not go during the summer or go on any one of the weekends that we don't have tournaments? Plan ahead basically is what we're saying.

2) "It's our last time as a family to go on vacation"

Coaching STAFF'S ANSWER: Why not do an abbreviated vacation during the Fall Break week when we are not having practice or a tournament and a longer vacation during the Winter Break or February Break?

3) "My parents already had this vacation planned before we knew how importance attedance was"

COACHING STAFF'S ANSWER: This is why we are giving dates well ahead of time. We talk about it each season so parents and kids that have been in our program know how we feel about this.

We are very excited for next year. What great momentum we've got. One of the most successful seasons in CHS history, the first season in our new pool, hopefully back to back league swimming titles, the CODE program's great success, much increased Legacy involvement in the offseason!! These are just a few great things that have us coaches so excited. See you all soon.
